Cangon Stud Farm born and reared Ellsworth made a winning debut for trainer Lloyd Kennewell when landing the opening event on the latest Saturday evening program staged at Cranbourne in Victoria.
A 3-year-old son of Tassort produced by the Snitzel mare Raahiyah, Ellsworth was sent to post the $3.90 second favourite of the 1000-metre Maiden Plate and won the eight runner affair by half-a-length from the Anthony & Sam Freedman trained Zubba Storm.
Kennewell Racing posted on its X account: “Fantastic to see Ellsworth with a solid winning debut tonight at Cranbourne. The three year old son of Tassort was the 150k sale topper from the HTBA sale in Sydney and he looks to have a very bright future.”
Cangon purchased Raahiyah, the dam of Ellsworth, at the 2022 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale when in foal to Tassort. Ellsworth is her first foal. More recently, Raahiyah produced a Capitalist filly in November last season.
Particularly well-related, Raahiyah is a half-sister to the dual South African Group 1 winner Rumya and the Group 2 VRC Edward Manifold Stakes winner Badawiya. The family traces back to the great Emancipation, one of the most celebrated racemares in living memory as a six-time Group 1 winner including the George Ryder Stakes on two occasions.
